I whacked it with a stick... Stupid llamas

Did you know that there are llamas in the woods? Well, there shouldn't be. Neighbor came up to the house last night. He and his daughters were riding horses in the woods near our place, and out of nowhere two llamas appeared and attacked their horses. The girls bailed off the frantic horses, and said horses took off... Followed by the llamas. One horse was still missing, so I grabbed a walking stick (critter whacking stick since I didn't want to get my pistol out) and headed into the woods to help search.

Ran into neighbor's wife, who was riding her stallion on the search, both because she could cover ground more quickly, and because he was hollering loudly every few minutes for his girls. Figured that might help locate the missing mare, I guess. She and I split up, and I walked round the long way back to the house. It was near dusk, and there's cougar and bear in them there woods. I wasn't gonna stay out til dark. I was rounding the last bend when I heard crashing in the woods to my left. Yay! I'd found Maggie! Nope. Two llamas came trotting out. They spotted me, and one of them laid back its ears and started coming at me. Wth! Good thing I had grabbed a stick. When waving my arms and yelling didn't shoo it away, I gave it a good whack. Pretty sure the stupid creature was planning on stomping me. Anyhow, didn't want ANYTHING to do with me after I smacked it.

I posted a lost and found on craigslist. Hope someone finds and catches those stupid llamas. And to think I'm usually on the lookout for cougars. Never figured I'd get charged by a freaking llama in the middle of the woods. Stupid llamas.

I never knew they were aggressive, especially towards a human. I would have liked to seen you swinging your stick at it though.

This is surreal...part of me wants to laugh, but I bet it was more than a little frightening to have a big animal charge you in the woods in the dark!

Oh. My. Gawd. That is hilarious. Just the title alone. Just that title is the funniest fucking thing I have heard all week.

What the crap?!?

Llamas are cute, but anything that tries to come at me, my kids or critters to do harm will also be meeting the business end of a whackin' stick.

I've never read such a thing. I wonder how long they've been loose?
Could have been a while if they've had to develop such attitudes. Against bear and cougar?
So glad you are okay. Hope the mare is found safe.

DFW... One of the gals I talked to about it said that all the llamas she's ever known were nasty. Lol. So maybe not too far off the norm.

Miriam... I actually wasn't scared, just aggravated. Grew up raising really large horses, so the llamas didn't seem so big. Sorta went like this... "Thank goodness I found that mar... Whoa. That's not a horse. Go on. Shoo. Shoo! *waving arms*, Git outta here! SHOO! Aw hell... *SMACK*" :) So, laugh away. My galpal Jodi laughed til she cried.

Lindsey, I'm very glad you got a kick out of it. There's something about the word "whacked" that's just funny. Lol.

Michelle... Hear hear!!!

LindaG... Goodness knows how long they've been out there. And yes, cougar and bear around here. Guy shot a cougar just a couple miles from here last year, after spotting it stalking him as he walked in the woods near his house. And I find lots of bear scat every spring and early summer. Fun fun!

eessh. Next time we do chickens have a gun handy.

I've read that llamas are good livestock guardians- now I know why.

these two sound like animal delinquents though.

I hope the horses are reunited! Please let us know how this turns out. I can't believe those llamas were so determined, enough to charge the horses. As for a "critter-stick," I ALWAYS walk in the woods with a good stick as well. I can either whack, poke or fling something with that stick. At least it makes me feel a tad more in control...

OMgosh that is hilarious! We have cows that have broken through the barbed wire that connects our property with the field next to us. We caught them on the game cam as they tromped around on our porches, pooping everywhere and eating the goats hay. But they scare easy when i take off running at them.

Any update? Did they find the mare? Did the llamas disappear? Did you find out who owned them? Thanks for the laugh.
