Yes, there's a goose on my butt. Yes, she's trying to get in my pocket. This sneak thief stole a zip tie out of my pocket one day, and proceeded to run around the yard in triumph, flapping her wings and squealing. Now, she knows what pockets are. Not long after this photo was taken, she had nearly her entire head in my pocket. Nothing to find, though. I'm hip to her game. Sneaky sneaky goose...

This is hysterical! I absolutely LOVE reading about your goose encounters and the photos are awesome. I guess they are pretty smart birds!
How funny. Is that the Toulouse goose in the picture? I know that you had two breeds. Which one do you like better?
The one trying to raid my pocket is the African, and the one behind her is a Toulouse. The African is my absolute favorite, as she's the friendliest of the four (the other three are Toulouse). I don't know if that's a result of her breed, or just her personality. Our gander, Sweet Boy, is a little standoffish and generally stays a couple feet out of reach. Sweet Girl and Baby Girl (aka Micro) will both come lie down next to me if I'm out in the yard reading, but don't come right up to me when I walk out there. Afro will come right up to my feet, follow me around and chatter away when I'm cleaning their yard, and climb all over me if I lie down. None of them really want to be picked up, but they'll follow us all around the yard. I really think it's just personality differences, though I do think that Afro is the prettiest of the bunch. :) So glad we saved her from choking when she was a little gosling.
That is too funny. Our neighbours have five geese, who are currently terrorizing our chickens through the fence - they are fierce! Hissing and honking and flapping. I wouldn't want to get in their way for anything, so I am utterly charmed by your story of the goose and the zip tie. But not enough to offer my butt to one of the neighbour's geese...
Miriam- lol. Our geese also hiss at chickens. :)
I wouldn't offer my fanny up to an unknown goose either! :) Ours don't attack, but if they see a tender piece of belly or back meat when I'm out there reading, they are tempted to sample, but run like the dickens when I shriek. Ouch! Ankle meat is also a choice pinch. They are like toddlers... everything must be tasted. Lol.
The picture kind of reminds me of two cats I once had, who were brothers. One would sit and watch and wait while the other one figured something out, usually mischief-related.
If she's on your butt, however did you get that picture? I would have loved to see her with most of her head in your pocket!
Paula, trust me, getting that shot required some serious flexibility, a bad cramp in my back, and several shots that were worthless. :) Every time I go out there to hang with them and read, she perches on my butt, tries to get in my pocket, and finally gives up and goes to sleep between my knees. And if I'm the slightest bit distracted, Baby Girl tries to grab my book and take off with it. :)
